In an endeavour to portray the benefits of scientific knowledge and practical appropriation, 28th February is celebrated as National Science Day. Various programmes and activities are being conducted to commemorate National Science Day. These activities include sit and draw competitions, quiz competitions, science demonstrations, exhibit hunt contest, etc., involving school students and teachers.
Science City, Kolkata has taken up major upgradation of Space Theatre to transform it into a 2D/3D Digital Theatre. To carry out this transformation, the theatre shall remain closed from 1 st March, 2017 onwards until further notification.
The second Innovation Festival will be held in the premises of Science City, Kolkata from 27th to 29th January, 2017. 34 Innovators from different parts of the country are showcasing their innovations which have helped mankind. The festival will be inaugurated by Prof. Ajoy Kumar Ray, Director, IIEST, Shibpur, in presence of Shri A. S. Manekar, Director General, National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Shri A.D. Choudhury, Director, Science City, other dignitaries and Innovators from across India.
The participating institutes includes Innovation Hub of Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Kolkata, Central Research and Training Laboratory, Kolkata, IIEST, Shibpur, MCKV Institute, University of Calcutta and individual grass root innovators are from West Bengal, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. ‘Bike Cannot start without wearing helmet’, Border Security System, Comfortable chappati maker, Aerobic respiration by coal to generate electricity, Disc-co-drum, Guava bending technology, natural water cooler, automatic street light device, milking machine, waste segregation bin, smart glass are some of the innovations on display. The innovators also shared how they overcame the odds and created something beneficial for the society by troubleshooting the basic problems.
Interactive displays from Central Research and Training Laboratory (CRTL), Science City and Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM) are sure to grab the visitor’s attention.
The festival will remain open for the visitors from 10.30 AM to 6.00 PM until January 29, 2017 near Maritime Centre in the Science City premises.
